Overview

ProgramRoster is an operations app for NGOs, bringing volunteers, donations, and program tracking together in one place instead of scattered spreadsheets.

The Challenge

Nonprofit teams are often small and stretched thin — the tool needed to be simple enough for non-technical staff to adopt immediately while still giving leadership org-wide visibility into what was actually happening across programs.

What I Built

• Volunteer management — recruitment, scheduling, and hour tracking
• Donation tracking for both one-off and recurring contributions
• Program reporting — outcomes and beneficiary tracking per program
• Admin dashboard giving org-wide visibility into activity across the organization

Tech Stack

• Framework: React Native
• Backend: Node.js, MongoDB
• Platforms: iOS, Android

Key Decisions

• Prioritized simplicity for non-technical staff adoption over feature completeness, since the biggest risk for a small, stretched-thin nonprofit team wasn't missing features — it was staff not using the tool at all
• Gave leadership an org-wide dashboard rather than per-program silos, so program reporting could be consolidated automatically instead of manually compiled across files

Outcome / Impact

Gave a nonprofit a single system to replace scattered spreadsheets for volunteers and donations, simplifying reporting that previously required manually consolidating multiple files.
